Created to provide a more advanced and individualised approach to complex scarring, Scarology considers the scar beyond what is visible on the surface including its type, depth, texture, colour and the way the tissue has healed.
Rather than relying on a single treatment or standard protocol, Scarology allows us to address the different characteristics of each scar through a carefully considered treatment plan, unique to the individual.

How We Treat Each Type of Scar
Different scars require different approaches. Their depth, formation, age, location and your skin’s individual healing response all influence how they should be treated.
Following a detailed assessment, we use the principles of our exclusive Scarology approach to determine the most appropriate combination and sequence of treatments for your scarring. The exact protocol is tailored by your practitioner and discussed as part of your consultation.
All Types of Acne Scars - Single Session
Scarology combines subcision, biostimulators, CO₂ laser with exosomes, and an exosome mask in one bespoke session, each layer targeting a different depth of scarring. Exclusive to Medcura.
Acne Scars - 3 Session Course
For more established scarring. Each visit combines subcision, scar filling with dermal fillers, and CO₂ laser with exosomes to rebuild the skin progressively. Full aftercare included.
Hypertrophic and Surgical Scars
Fractional CO₂ laser remodels excess collagen, subcision releases tethering, and biostimulators restore support beneath the scar, selected based on the depth and nature of each scar.
Keloid Scars
Prescription injections calm inflammation and flatten the overgrown tissue from within, and fractional CO₂ laser then remodels the surface. Exosome therapy is added where it supports healing.
Enlarged Pores - CO₂ Resurfacing
Fractional CO₂ laser resurfaces the skin at a deeper level across three sessions, reducing pore size and refining texture. Improvement is often visible after the first session.
Types of Scars
Scarring forms differently depending on how the skin was injured and how it healed. Understanding your scar type is the first step to treating it correctly.
Acne Scars
Acne scarring forms when inflammation damages the dermis during a breakout. It appears in several forms, like rolling, pitted, ice-pick, and boxcar, each sitting at a different depth and requiring a different treatment approach.
Hypertrophic Scars
Raised, firm scars that form when excess collagen is produced during healing. Unlike keloids, hypertrophic scars stay within the boundary of the original wound. They are common after surgery, injury, or deep acne.
Surgical Scars
Scars left after surgical procedures that have healed flat but show visible discolouration, tethering beneath the surface, or textural irregularity. They may not be raised, but can remain prominent and affect skin quality over time.
Keloid Scars
An overgrowth of scar tissue that extends beyond the original wound boundary. Keloids are raised, firm, and can continue to grow over time. They are more common in darker skin tones and require a targeted medical-grade approach rather than standard resurfacing.
Post-Inflammatory Marks (Pink and Brown Spots)
The flat pink or brown marks left after breakouts aren't true scars, they're post-inflammatory spots, and they need a different approach. If you still have active acne, we'll recommend the Acne Clearing Programme first, as scar treatment can't be performed over active breakouts.
